Nice! I didn't notice 2.0 was out as a stable version, time to update! I wouldn't have noticed since our admin banned access to µTorrent's website, and automatically µTorrent's auto-update service.

EDIT: Wow, I already love this thing, it began to seed what I've been trying to seed for hours!

I usually just update when it says there is a new version, haven't gotten one of those in a while. I even did the check for updates in the client and it said there was none. So something must have been messed up with that I was running 1.8.5.

if you where using a version that got removed from the whitelist: yes.

the auto-update always lags behind by roughly a weak. i guess they try to stretch the window where the masses are getting the new version so the strain on the download servers is manageable.

Hmmm, I think you only get the 2.X update early/quick if you were using the 1.9/2.0 beta version. That was the case with me.

I tried the beta on the PC and it later updated to 2.0 a while back. However I did not try the beta on my laptop and it is now still on 1.8.5. Undecided

Wow didn't realize I was stuck on 1.8.5 like everyone else.

2.0 is pretty sleek, but I like the icons better on the previous version. Weird I know.

I miss the old look of the torrent statuses. But it does look sleeker now.

I'm seedy like a bad pot bud.  Grin

Well...updating was huge mistake. I went from seeding at 120kb/s to only 30kb/s without changing anything. How the hell does that happen? I'm going to be utterly furious if it never reaches the same speeds again.

I haven't updated mine in a while, so I guess I ought to if I want to go on seeding stuff.  But one question:  When updating utorrent, is there any way to keep the torrent list, or do I have to manually reinsert all of them?

This is what has kept me from updating before.  I use utorrent for download management, and I have every torrent I ever downloaded with this machine registered in utorrent 1.8.1, to keep me from downloading the same thing twice, and so I can check to see (for example) if I've collected all the individual episodes of some series, from which groups, both XviD and H264, etc., and for hashchecking, since Vista with NTFS tends to corrupt a file every now and then.  Torrent clients are real handy for hashchecks, to ensure file integrity.

If I have to manually re-install all 2175 torrents, I'm going to grab the latest utorrent.  But if I can upgrade in steps, say, from my current 1.8.1 to 1.8.2 to 1.8.3 etc. without losing the list, that is what I would prefer to do.  Believe it or not, the answer to this question is not in the utorrent forum or anything, but I figure with everyone here updating, someone will know the answer.

I'd also prefer not to lose my ratio statistics, so I know when to stop seeding old stuff.

Alternatively, if there's no way to avoid losing my statistics and torrent list when updating, is it possible to run more than one version of utorrent, without having the new one louse up the data files from the old one?

Also, I have seen a rumor that versions of utorrent beyond a certain point are not friendly to certain types of file sharing, because some entertainment industry outlet wanted to do paid distribution, and paid off the guy who programs utorrent.  Is there any truth to this?

You should allow 1.8.2 instead of 1.8.5. 1.8.3+ just does not work when it comes to seeding even though my ISP clearly told me they are not concerned about my round the clock seeding and there is no need for them to throttle anything. Yea such an ISP does exist. Tongue

Also many other trackers are getting their cajones in a bunch over uTP and version 2.0... bt.trans.dispositio n hacking doesn't work in 1.8.3+ either so you can't fix your upload if their is just one 1.9/2.0 in the swarm.

Also whatever happened to the mass pm?  Tongue

After playing around and not being able to fix the new version I decided to re-install 1.8.5 and, Wouldn't you know it, with the settings unchanged from 2.0 it went back up to 120kb/s.

-20 for 2.0 until I figure out what the hell went wrong.

Hi,

I know that bitcomet is in the blacklist, but its been since 3-4 years. Surely, bitcomet has corrected some of theses problems since.

thx

If you're like me and even a single peer in the swarm with uTP turned on causes your router to crash, you can still force TCP-only in uTorrent 2.0 by setting bt.transp_dispositi on to "5". This will restrict you to only TCP for both incoming and outgoing connections. I cannot use uTP at all or else my upload speed drops down to less than 1KB/s and I need to power off my router, but I've still been using uTorrent 2.0 for many months with this setting without problems. I only use uTP when I seed from a different location with a better router, where it doesn't cause problems.

Of course, your problem with uTP may be caused by something different than me, but it's worth turning uTP off if you think that's what's wrong.

If you want uTP-only, by the way, set bt.transp_dispositi on to "10".

2.0 is a major version of uTorrent, it won't be available through update.

Where did you get this information?  According to a post in the release thread in the uTorrent forums, it will be put on autoupdate fairly soon.

This seems to be their standard procedure: release on the web site first, then put it on autopdate later.  Saves bandwidth on their servers and gives them more time to be sure the release is stable before they start sending it out as an autoupdate (from posts in various release threads in the uTorrent forums).
